Embrace the Camera…My Facebook Profile Photo Obsession…..

For this week’s Embrace the Camera…I’m going to talk about my obsession with my Facebook profile picture.  Every month I spend hours getting a new picture just right……I am addicted to my theme….I always take the same picture…my right eye with some type of object.

I refuse to use any other type of picture for my profile picture…..all month I think about what object might be just right to use for my next photo.

It is a fun little way to express myself.   I think it is interesting how people choose to represent themselves through their Facebook profile picture.  Some people seem to take a lot of time thinking about their photos, some people seem to not care what their photo is….some people change their photo constantly, while others never change it.  I change my photo every month…I try to do it on the first…but it doesn’t always work out that way.  What about you…..do you change your Facebook profile photo often?  Do you spend a lot of time thinking about your Facebook profile photo?  Do you even use Facebook?

Aunt Loretta’s hummus…

Did I mention that my Aunt Loretta is an awesome cook?  Well, she is….and while we were visiting her..she made her delicious hummus!  She put it out as an appetizer…and I was afraid I would eat all of it……and not have room for dinner!

So, of course, as soon as we got home from our trip…I had to make more hummus!  It is a simple recipe but incredibly delicious!  Enjoy…….

Aunt Loretta’s Hummus

  • 2 cups cooked chick peas
  • 4 or 5 cloves garlic mashed
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ cup tahini paste
  • 1 lemon
  • 2-6 tbsp. water
  • chopped parsley
  • paprika

Add all in food processor and blend til paste.  Garnish with paprika and parsley.

*** For Baba Ganoush  —  follow same recipe but use eggplant instead of chick peas and no water

Beginning of the New Year….

We started our new year with a trip to visit my aunt Loretta.  She is my mother’s sister.  My mom’s birthday was the day after Christmas and after my mom died we started a tradition of visiting my aunt on my mom’s birthday.  Except this year, we got a huge snow storm on that day….so we had to postpone the trip…and we ended up going on January 1st.

My mother loved my aunt dearly and admired her so much…she was the glamorous older sister.  My mom would constantly tell stories about how adventurous and daring her sister Loretta was….and how she yearned to be like her.  At almost 88, she is still full of energy and fun.  I am glad that my children are getting to know her.

New Years Eve…..

Well..it is New Year’s Eve….and it has been a quiet day around here..which is fine with me!  After I took pictures for this post…I realized it was connected to my New Year’s Eve post from last year…..strange how things work out….

One of my favorite gifts that I gave this year…..was taking some of my mom’s drawings and watercolors..and getting them framed and giving them to my children, my aunt and one of my brothers.  It is something I had been meaning to do for awhile now….and after I took the photos..I noticed that I had ended the year, last year, with a drawing my mom had done.

So, as I look back and reflect on the past year…..I think it was a nice year, a quiet year….a more gentle year…..the year before I had so been waiting for it to end…..so this year was calmer…but every year is a wonderful year…with my family….and with loved ones….so Happy New Year…..to everyone…..enjoy……love……live…..

Snow Cream…..

Every time it snows….everybody wants to have snow cream for dessert.  In our family, there are two different ways to make it.  For either version, you need a big bowl of fresh snow!

For the first variety, all you need is maple syrup…just pour in as much as you like…which in our families case, is a lot!  Stir it up and enjoy…..very simple.

The other version involves sugar and vanilla!  It all depends on your mood.

For this version, all you do is add about a teaspoon of vanilla and sugar…..a lot of sugar, if you are one of my children!

And of course, you have to mush it all up before you can enjoy it!

Snow…..

We got hit with a big snowstorm yesterday…..it is so windy and cold…but of course, the kids love it…especially River.

She doesn’t want to come inside…she would rather stay out in the snow all day….If you are having snow..I hope you are safe and warm……and if you aren’t having snow…I hope you are safe and warm….enjoy….
